Credit cards are accepted for all types of purchases, but it is advisable to check or ask before buying.

The opening hours of the pharmacies vary, but weekdays between 8.00 and 17.00 almost all of them are open. On Saturdays they are usually open till noon, after that you can use the services of the pharmacy designated to be on duty. (The name and contact numbers of the pharmacy on duty are displayed in the shop windows of the pharmacies, but the doctors on duty can also give you information about it.)

You must not smoke in restaurants, bars, cafés and public places in Hungary.

Besides these places you can smoke in the designated areas.
You can only buy cigarettes in special shops called "Nemzeti Dohánybolt" (National Tobacco Shop).

Public transport

With a well-established local bus network the outer parts of the historic city centre surrounded by the old city wall can be easily accessed from all directions. Once you are in the city centre the best way to explore the sights, the beauty spots and hidden treasures of Pécs is by walking. If you would like to discover the sights on the Mecsek Hill we recommend that you use public transport as well.

Before boarding, bus tickets can be bought at the newsagent's, in the ticket offices of the Pécs Public Transport Company and in the Tourinform office. You can also buy a ticket from the bus driver but then you have to pay a supplement.

Travelling conditions:
Passengers under 6 and above 65 (including citizens of EU members states) as well as blind and hearing impaired passengers with 1 accompanying person can travel free of charge.

In Hungary it is not customary to wave down the moving TAXIs. You may call a TAXI per phone or find them at TAXI stops in the downtown area.

The regulation of Pécs Local Authority divided the historic centre and the neighbouring areas into a restricted and two protected "pedestrian" and "walking" areas. All parking space outside the above mentioned zones is operated in a parking zone and they can be used for a parking fee. Parking is free from 13:00 on Saturdays until 8:00 on Mondays.

Underground garage at Kossuth tér:
The two floored garage has parking places for 280 cars. On the corner of the second floor the medieval cellar can bee seen which has been discovered during the archeological excavations before the construction.

Shops, markets, restaurants, cafés

Pécs has a mediterranean atmosphere which you can experience walking downtown with many bars, restaurants, cafés and little shops along the way. You can find shops and restaurants in the Király street and downtown area.

There are many little markets throughout the city during the weekends. The two farmers markets are at Búza Square (saturdays)  and Kossuth Square (fridays).
